[THE BIG IDEA]

In the heart of Lakeland, Pinoy Cravings, a Filipino food business emerges, not merely as a culinary haven but as a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of community, culture, and diversity. This venture aims to go beyond the confines of a typical restaurant, aspiring to become a focal point for fostering connections, preserving heritage, and embracing the rich diversity that defines Lakeland's social landscape.

Community-Centric Approach: At the core of this Filipino food business is a commitment to community engagement. The establishment strives to be more than just a place to savor delectable dishes; it aspires to be a gathering space where Lakeland residents can forge meaningful connections. From hosting community events like Kamayan to collaborating with local artists and musicians, the business seeks to create an inclusive environment that transcends the boundaries of a traditional restaurant.

Culinary Heritage and Tradition: Filipino cuisine, with its rich tapestry of flavors, reflects the diverse history and cultural influences that have shaped the Philippines. This Lakeland-based venture aims to be a culinary ambassador, introducing the community to the unique and flavorful dishes that define Filipino gastronomy. From the iconic adobo to the savory sinigang, each dish served is a celebration of tradition and a testament to the vibrant culinary heritage of the Philippines.

Diverse Culinary Offerings: While rooted in Filipino cuisine, the food business also embraces diversity by incorporating fusion elements that reflect the multicultural fabric of Lakeland. The menu is a symphony of flavors, offering vegetarian and vegan options alongside traditional meat-centric dishes. This inclusivity is not just a nod to dietary preferences but a celebration of Lakeland's diverse population.

Cultural Education and Appreciation: Beyond serving delicious meals, the Filipino food business strives to educate the community about Filipino culture. The establishment plans to host cultural workshops, language classes, and events that showcase the arts, history, and traditions of the Philippines. By fostering cultural understanding, the business aims to create a space where people can appreciate and celebrate the rich diversity within Lakeland.

Collaboration with Local Businesses: Recognizing that strength lies in unity, the business actively collaborates with local farmers, producers, and artisans. Ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, strengthening the ties between the Filipino food business and Lakeland's broader community. This collaborative approach not only supports local economies but also underscores the commitment to community building.

In Lakeland, this Filipino food business is not merely a place to indulge in delicious meals; it is a hub for community, a celebration of culture, and a testament to the beauty of diversity. Founder

Florencio Dobrea

“I’m Florencio Dobrea, I moved to Lakeland, Florida about 17 years ago from the Philippines. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in business administration at Polk State College in 2019. My passion for Filipino dishes came from my grandma. When I was a kid I remember watching my grandma cook in an outdoor kitchen, or “dirty kitchen”. When I was 8 years old I started learning how to cook, techniques and flavors inspired by my grandma. In 2008 I landed my first job working in a restaurant here in Lakeland and fell in love with it. Lakeland has been my home since 2006, I’ve noticed there’s a lack of representation of Filipino culture and cuisine. So during the peek of the pandemic I decide to take the risk and venture into the food business with a determination to succeed and pursue my passion of cooking Filipino dishes and street food. With the help of Catapult Lakeland by mentoring and guiding us to sucess, I was able to achieve my burning passion. Have any of you tried our “Sexy Skewed”? If not, come visit us in Lakeland Florida. My home town.”
